The RECYCLED TOWER – A S.T.E.A.M. Project for Home

This S.T.E.A.M. project has been a huge hit for my family. The goal is to build the highest tower possible using the following formula:

Number of materials (levels) high + Number of inches high = total score

Each recyclable item is a level. Therefore, a coffee container stacked on top of an egg carton would be two levels. It would be easy to stack a bunch of boxes on their sides. Although you would successfully stack a high number of materials, your measurement in inches (or centimeters) would be relatively low. So stacking a few materials right side up would be in your best interest to maximize your measured height.

Remember! It’s not simply the total number of levels stacked. Your final score is determined by the number of materials (levels) high + number of inches high.

All you need are some recyclable materials and some open space for literally hours of fun. First, we each completed the challenge individually, trying to beat each other’s records for height. Next, we made it even more fun by forming teams. The collaboration was awesome!
